We take this time of year to update our courses, to get them ready for the Fall presentations and speaking events.
One of the things that I talk about in my Energy Management program are Energy Drainers. I have a whole list of them to share, on how to recognize them and what to do, but would love your help with one in particular!
I speak about Facing Your Fears. I do this because I believe that carrying around a fear that doesn't warrant the attention you give it, is an energy drainer.
One of my fears was speaking in front of a group of people. Even a small group. As a child I grew up with a stutter. I was fine most times one on one but any time I had to say two words in class, or even answer the phone with a "Good morning Baskin Robbins" (I use to work there) for example, I couldn't do it.
I remember when I was in Grade 11 my mom thought she would surprise me and enter me in the Miss Teen Toronto pageant. Well out of 250 applicants and a series of interviews, I made it to the top 5, which meant I had to go up on a stage and say Good evening and say my speech. Hard G's were difficult for me to get out. So I got up and said "Hi" instead and then shared my aspirations.
Fast forward to many years later, where it was time for me to get over this fear and ultimately my stutter and start presenting.
I owned my own dental instrument company and I remember many years ago I hired a prof from one of the dental hygiene schools to present for me. I couldn't even introduce her!
Now, I present for a living and have presented to hundreds of groups from dental assistants, to dentists and specialists, to dental hygienists. I feel confident in front of the camera, or an audience or even an interview style and have presented to large groups, the largest being at RDH Under One Roof to 2200 people (including my proud son in the audience).
So I would love to hear from you. What is your fear? What obstacles do you have to overcome to be the best version of yourself? I know many fear our Quality Assurance program, or have a fear of feeling left behind, which is why I am so passionate about keeping current, learning new skills, knowing your material and feeling confident in your practice.
We have created a Google Form (please click) for you to share your fears. I would love some new material for this portion of my presentation. You can be anonymous or share your name. I will be the only one sifting through these.
I am passionate about transformation and a big part of transformation is recognizing the things that don't serve you and making a plan to make change happen.
Thank you in advance for your participation!
See you soon in one of our courses :)
